This course will build your understanding of the ways in which policies, procedures and internal controls reduce the risk of a loss of funds and information by both employees and outsiders, and will help you identify when a loss may have taken place.  Such losses can tarnish the reputation of an organization, affecting potential funding and staff and board recruitment.

Learning Objectives - attendees will learn:

  • What internal controls are and how to implement them, particularly in a small nonprofit
  • About policies and procedures that create a fair and structured environment for employees and board members, and help ensure that business practices are transparent and free from conflicts.
  • Ways to use both internal and external audits to identify potential areas of concern
  • How to respond if an adverse event occurs
