Overview

This course incorporates the latest research on ethical or value-based organizational culture to understand its importance and positive impact on employees and organizational performance.

Description

In this course, we'll review the conceptual underpinnings of ethical and value-based organizations and identify how leaders within non-profit organizations can lead more ethically, benefiting their employees and their organizations.  We'll discuss the importance of open systems, explore the ethical dimensions that shape the culture of an organization, and delineate the unethical and illegal behaviors that people sometimes exhibit in organizations.  The remainder of this workshop involves introducing strategies to develop a more ethical and value-based organizational culture utilizing relevant case studies so that participants can practically apply concepts learned during the course. 

Learning Objectives: 

  • Understand the key components of ethical or value-based organizational culture and its impact on employees and organizations
  • Identify behaviors that promote or inhibit ethical behavior within an organization
  • Share strategies for managing and leading ethically.
  • Build experience by analyzing ethical dilemma case studies, identifying how best to develop an ethical and value-based organizational culture 

Who should take this class?
This course is ideal for anyone seeking to understand the importance of an ethical and/or value-based organizational culture and to learn strategies for developing this type of culture in an organization. No pre-requisite skills needed.

This workshop is included in our Nonprofit Management Certification series and fulfills three hours in the Organizational Management competency area.

REFUND/CREDIT POLICY: The San Antonio Area Foundation has a no refund policy. If a workshop and/or class has been unexpectedly cancelled and/or postponed by the Area Foundation, a refund or credit towards another workshop and/or class will be issued. If a registrant is unable to attend a workshop and/or class, a substitute may be sent. No refunds or credits will be given for cancellations received less than 48 hours before a workshop.

Meet our Presenter: 

Dr. Kathryn E. Keeton is the Chief Executive Officer of Minerva Work Solutions and received her Masters and Doctorate in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from the University of Houston. She is also an Associate Professor at the University of Texas-San Antonio and serves as the Executive Coach for students in the Executive MBA Program in the College of Business.  She has experience in a variety of industry including oil and gas, healthcare, and aerospace.  Before forming Minerva, she worked as a subcontractor to the National Aviation and Space Administration (NASA) as a Senior Scientist to manage the Team-related research with the Behavioral Health and Performance Research Element and then as an Innovation Strategist working for the Center of Excellence for Collaborative Innovation facilitating the use and implementation of crowdsourcing solutions within the agency.

Minerva provides HR Consulting services to organizations including team and leadership training, executive coaching, selection and assessment, and employee engagement and Dr. Keeton serves as a Managing Consultant in providing these services to her clients.

Dr. Keeton has authored and co-authored multiple publications and has presented on topics related to innovation, teams, and teamwork at numerous professional conferences.  Dr. Keeton is a member of the Society for Industrial Organizational Psychologists (SIOP) and the American Psychological Association (APA), as well as a licensed psychologist in the state of Texas.
