Overview

Projects are a major component of every nonprofit. The ability to manage a project is the key to its success. This workshop will present a step-by-step process that can be used for any type of project in a nonprofit setting.

Description

Since the beginning of time, projects have been managed in some form.  Project management is not new.  Over the years, the processes for managing projects have been documented and refined so a project can now be led strategically and thoughtfully from beginning to end. This workshop will go through the steps of successful project management…..initiating, planning, monitoring/controlling, executing, and closing. At the close of the session, participants will understand how to manage a project from inception to close.

After completing this class, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the context in which a project takes place
  • Examine how a project is initiated
  • Define the step by step process of planning
  • Understand the importance of monitoring, controlling, and executing a project
  • Bring a project to conclusion

Who should attend this class?

Nonprofit paid and volunteer staff and board members who engage in project management - fundraising events, initiating new programs, etc.

This workshop is included in our Nonprofit Management Certification series and fulfills three hours in the Organizational Management competency area.
