This workshop will help you understand the entire grant cycle - from concept to closeout.


Successful grants management is one of the greatest challenges in the nonprofit world. In this workshop you will learn tips on how to satisfy your funders as you accomplish your program objectives. The program will also review sample grant monitoring systems.

This workshop is included in our Nonprofit Management Certification series and fulfills three hours in the Fundraising competency area.

Meet our Presenter:

The presenter for this workshop is Jack Smith, M.P.A., Principal Consultant, The Smith Group. Mr. Smith is a nationally-recognized grant writer based in Freeport, Maine. Since 1987, his consulting practice has contracted training services to more than 200 organizations. Each year, more than 2000 participants attend one of his classes. He has taught grant-writing skills for the state governments of Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Vermont and for agencies and clients of the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Energy, CDC and the Cherokee Nation. He serves as adjunct instructor for professional development programs at the University of Southern Maine, the University of Georgia, Emory University, Duke University and Austin Community College. Mr. Smith earned a master of public administration degree from the University of Maine. In 1986, the U.S. Department of Energy presented a national Award for Energy Innovation to Mr. Smith’s Self-Help Weatherization Program Model.
