This course is designed to address current issues that are impacting employers.

Description

This class will address recent activity in human resource topics. The anticipated issues for 2019 are:

  • Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): New salary threshold for white collar exemptions from overtime pay, bans on pay-history inquiries, salary increase projections for 2020
  • Proposed updates to employee handbooks: legal marijuana and the workplace, what to do when “no call/no show” employee reappears 
  • San Antonio paid sick and safe leave that has been delayed to 12/1/2019
  • How to perform an I-9 self-assessment 

What participants will learn
 Dependent on the “hot” topics at the time of the class, the participants will be provided with knowledge and sample content on how to implement changes in their particular organization.

After completing this class, participants will be able to:

  • Review their activities in the workplace.
  • Identify gaps and opportunities.
  • Address the gaps and opportunities with actionable content.

Human Resource Employees and Managers in the Workplace

This workshop is included in our Nonprofit Management Certification series and fulfills three hours in the Managing Staff and Volunteers competency area.

Cost:  $60.00

If a workshop and/or class has been unexpectedly cancelled and/or postponed by the Area Foundation, a refund or credit towards another workshop and/or class will be issued. If a registrant is unable to attend a workshop and/or class, a substitute may be sent or a credit may be issued. No credits will be given for cancellations received less than 48 hours before a workshop.

Meet our Presenter:

As President of VATX Consulting, Michelle Cox brings diverse skills such as organizational development, analytics, human resources, process management, and change management. She has served clients of all sizes ranging from large publicly-owned corporations to small privately-held companies. In addition, Michelle teaches for three colleges and universities in the areas of Organization Development, Human Resources, Statistics and Data Analytics, Project Management, and Leadership.
 
Michelle has helped clients with balanced scorecards, communication plans, compensation analysis, dashboards, data analytics, employee development plans, employee hiring interviews, Human Resource investigations, job design, job descriptions, kaizen events, organization design, process design, process improvement, strategic planning, training delivery, data analytics, and training design.

Michelle has a PhD in Organizational Leadership and an MBA with a concentration in Organizational Development. She is certified in Adult Education. Michelle has been involved with different non-profits for over 30 years.
