Caregiver Workgroup

Community Panel and Forum Series

  • In the U.S., there are 53 million family caregivers to adults living with an illness or disability. The need for care is expected to increase over the next several decades due to population aging. The population of persons ages 85 and older, who are most likely to require care, is projected to nearly triple from 2020 to 2050.
  • While employers estimate that employee caregivers make up about 29 percent of the workforce, the actual percentage is 45 percent, according to Bank of America’s 2019 Workplace Benefits Report, which is based on survey responses from 804 U.S. employers and 996 employees.

SALSA Current Project:

March 2022 – December 2022 – SALSA partners are leading a Community Panel and Forum Series to enhance workplace policies to support family caregivers in San Antonio. The series is currently focused on the nonprofit sector.

  • Based on what we learn during discussions, we will generate a resource guide that will be shared with non-profit employers. Content will cover challenges employers face, as well as solutions identified through case discussion as a group. Further, we will share existing resources where employers can turn to support their employees.
