Board Principles Series

The Area Foundation offers training based on the “Principles for Board Governance and Ethical Practice”. Developed by The Panel on the Nonprofit Sector, these 33 principles provide board guidance in four key areas -- legal compliance, effective governance, financial oversight and responsible fundraising.  Each quarter, we host a training class based on one of the four key areas.

Board Day

A biannual, in-depth conference with a national expert, Board Day provides nonprofit and foundation board members with the tools to lead their organizations and enhance board governance.

Board Boot Camp

Nonprofit boards play a critical role in overseeing their organization’s mission, finances and strategic direction. Whether you are new to nonprofit board service, or need a refresher course, this one-day workshop will provide you with the tools to help strengthen your board and ensure your organization’s success.

Reggie Williams Resource Library

Board members may also take advantage of our Reggie Williams Resource Library, which is free and open to the public. The library features more than 200 hard copy volumes available for in-house use on subjects related to nonprofit management, fundraising, leadership and more. Board members can also temporarily search the Foundation Directory remotely.
