Leave A Lasting Legacy

Customized charitable planning through your will or estate withstands the test of time.

What do you want your legacy to make possible?

A will is a way to care for the people you love and make a lasting difference in the community you call home.

The San Antonio Area Foundation can help you create a legacy around what matters most to you. You can support the Area Foundation’s work across our community, create a fund for a cause you care about, establish a scholarship, or provide lasting support for a nonprofit that’s important to you.

I want to explore my legacy.

You don’t need extraordinary wealth to leave an extraordinary legacy. You just need to decide what you want your generosity to make possible.

For more than 60 years, the Area Foundation has helped people turn generosity into lasting impact across San Antonio and South Central Texas.

Not sure what your legacy should look like? That’s okay!
Our philanthropic advisors can help you explore your goals and the options available to make them possible. We also work alongside attorneys, financial advisors and other professionals, including members of our Professional Advisor Council, to support thoughtful charitable planning.

Your will can:
  • Strengthen our community by supporting the Area Foundation’s work for generations to come.
  • Support a cause through a fund dedicated to an issue you care about.
  • Continue your support for a nonprofit that has made a difference to you.
  • Create opportunities for students through a scholarship fund.

I need to make or update my will.

A will puts your wishes in writing, providing clarity for the people you love and a way to carry your values forward.

Whether you’re creating your first will or revisiting one you’ve had for years, the Area Foundation can help you think about the legacy you want to leave in our community. Our philanthropic advisors can help you explore what matters most to you and how charitable giving can become part of your plans.

Through the Area Foundation’s partnership with FreeWill, you can create a legally valid will online, completely free of charge.

Already working with an attorney? We also provide sample language for including the Area Foundation in your will.

DID YOU KNOW?

If you die without a valid will in Texas, state law determines who receives your property.

Having a will allows you to make those decisions yourself, including whether you want part of what you leave behind to support your community or the causes you care about.
