Ensuring its commitment to educational excellence, the San Antonio Area Foundation recently offered its cadre of Legacy Scholars an opportunity to learn college application best practices.

Bernice Uresti, Executive Director of Legacy Scholarship

The event, organized by Bernice Uresti, Executive Director for Legacy Scholarship and Scholars at the Area Foundation in partnership with Café College, offered Legacy Scholarship recipients and their parents a great opportunity to learn all about the college application process.

The Area Foundation’s Legacy Scholarship is one of the largest college scholarship programs in the country. Its first round of recipients (2022) included 50 juniors from Bexar and Webb counties with each being awarded $40,000 toward their college studies. The 2023 recipients are expected to be announced in March.

After Uresti opened the session to the more than 20 students and parents in attendance, AnaÍ Rivera and Valerie Enriquez, College and Success Advisors at Café College followed with presentations. AnaÍ presented to the scholars while Valerie took the parents to a separate room for their own information session.

Students were informed of the tools and resources provided by Café College to help them during the college application process. Scholars were then given a chance to ask their questions regarding housing, materials and helpful tips for college success.

The Area Foundation remains committed to Youth Success as one of our main grantmaking impact areas. By aiding students in the college application process through scholarships and resource events, our efforts continue to prepare future generations with the skills and knowledge to forge a more equitable community.
