The Dr. Fernando A. Guerra Public Health Scholarship Fund aims to reduce the widening gaps in local health and social disparities. This goal is achieved by providing undergraduate scholarships to students who will apply proven methods to address public health and social justice issues. These efforts contribute to mitigating disparities that often persist from one generation to the next. The scholarship fund was established by the Commonwealth Fund of New York City in honor of Fernando Guerra, MD, MPH. Dr. Guerra’s dedicated service on several advisory committees, including his work on the commission to establish standards for a high-performing health care system, inspired this initiative.
