Our Impact

From 2011 through 2020, the Area Foundation helped to increase graduation rates by supporting out-of-school time programs.

Through a competitive review process each year, the Area Foundation awarded High School Completion grants to organizations that:

  • Provided evidence that students improve in the areas of school attendance, academic performance and/or behavior,
  • Provided opportunities for students to engage in leadership activities and/or for families to participate in the program,
  • Had a relationship with a public school teacher, counselor or administrator who provided a letter of support describing the program’s impact on student attendance, behavior and/or academic performance.

Investing in Collaboration

The San Antonio Area Foundation understands the power of collaboration to influence systems change, to this end served as a catalyst to launch a coordinated city-wide effort focused on improving youth outcomes through Out-of-School Time (OST) programs. The initiative, known as Excel Beyond the Bell – San Antonio (EBBSA), convenes 48 nonprofit organizations serving 80,000 area youth and engages them in a common agenda to centered on building developmental relationships with youth.

The Area Foundation now serves as a lead anchor partner to EBBSA.
