Founding corporate coalition completes its collective commitment by investing in trusted organizations advancing community and economic development across the city’s urban core

Corporate Partners for Racial Equity (CPRE) today announced the final chapter of its collective giving, a multi-year investment strategy designed to honor the fund’s founding commitment while supporting the future growth of San Antonio. The strategy will provide $1 million annually over the next four years – $4 million in total – in general operating support to a focused portfolio of trusted nonprofit organizations working in community and economic development, housing stability, neighborhood revitalization, and related efforts within the city’s urban core.

The fund was created through the collective leadership of San Antonio business and civic partners committed to addressing long-standing disparities and expanding opportunity across the community. Guided by a year-long, data-informed planning process and community input, the partners pledged over $13 million to support strategies spanning equitable education, economic opportunity, and safety and justice. The San Antonio Area Foundation has served as the primary vehicle for the fund’s investments.

As the fund enters its final chapter, the partners chose to focus the remaining resources on organizations positioned to help residents, neighborhoods, and small businesses participate in and benefit from the significant public and private investment shaping San Antonio’s future. At a pivotal moment of growth for the city, these final commitments are intended to help ensure that long-standing residents and community institutions share in the opportunities that growth creates while fulfilling the coalition’s original pledge of more than $13 million.

The final grantees reflect a deliberate focus on organizations with demonstrated track records, trusted community relationships, and the ability to work collaboratively across sectors. The organizations receiving these final investments are:

NALCAB – technical assistance, capital access, and capacity building for community development organizations throughout the region.

SAGE – resident-centered revitalization, economic development, and community engagement on the East Side.

San Antonio Housing Trust – expanded affordable housing opportunities and long-term housing stability for working families.

Merced Housing Texas – affordable housing development and preservation that expands opportunities for low- and moderate-income residents.

MAUC Housing Preservation Center – housing preservation resources and technical assistance to maintain long-term affordability and neighborhood stability.

CHEST – community capacity building and neighborhood-based initiatives that strengthen equitable community development outcomes.

Each investment is intended as part of a four-year strategy and will be reviewed annually prior to renewal. The approach is designed to provide organizations with the flexible, sustained support needed to build capacity, deepen collaboration, leverage additional investment, and pursue long-term outcomes for San Antonio communities.

RC Buford Headshot“It’s inspiring to see what’s possible when we invest in the people and organizations closest to our communities,” said RC Buford, CEO at Spurs Sports & Entertainment. “These organizations have built trust, created opportunity and strengthened neighborhoods across our special city. We’re proud and grateful to stand alongside our community and corporate partners as we continue working together to create lasting impact throughout San Antonio.”

The San Antonio Area Foundation will work with the Corporate Partners and funded organizations to coordinate grant administration and communications, ensuring clarity around the collective source and purpose of the investments. Individual Corporate Partners may also choose to share the story through their own channels, including executive communications, employee engagement, community events, digital content, and social media.

Together, these final investments are intended to leave a lasting legacy: stronger community institutions, greater economic opportunity, and a more connected and resilient San Antonio.
