When a family on the South Side of San Antonio discovers a leaking roof after a heavy rain, the problem rarely stops at a few drops of water. Left unaddressed, a small leak can quickly turn into damaged walls, rising repair costs, and difficult choices about what a family can afford to fix.

For many households, help arrives through organizations like Blueprint Ministries. Working across San Antonio and surrounding communities, Blueprint mobilizes volunteers and resources to provide critical home repairs and accessibility improvements that help families remain safe, stable, and independent.

“With the housing crisis in San Antonio being so multi-faceted, the more visibility that we and so many other incredible organizations have, the more traction we can make as a community in solving the problem,” says Tyler Ferguson, Executive Director for Blueprint Ministries.

Their work is a reminder that strengthening a community often starts one story at a time.

And stories like these remind us that meaningful change often happens quietly, one family, one home, and one neighborhood at a time. They also raise a question we hear often from donors:

How do I find organizations doing work like this?

The answer is not always obvious. Across our region, hundreds of nonprofits are strengthening families, protecting natural resources, supporting older adults, expanding educational opportunity, and responding to emerging community needs. For donors who want to make a direct gift aligned with their values, knowing where to begin can be challenging.

That challenge inspired the San Antonio Area Foundation’s new Giving Guide series. And now, we’re excited to launch our online Giving Guide library, bringing together our collection of curated giving guides all in one place.

Whether you’re passionate about affordable housing, successful aging, environmental stewardship, food security, local journalism, youth success, or any issues in between, the library helps connect you with organizations working on the causes you care about most.

Each guide features nonprofits chosen for their demonstrated leadership, community impact, and commitment to serving our region. Some are longstanding community institutions. Others are emerging organizations addressing critical needs in innovative ways. Together, they represent a diverse network of nonprofits creating both immediate support and long-term change.

As your most trusted philanthropic partner, the Area Foundation helps connect generosity with opportunity. Sometimes that means helping donors establish a charitable fund or participate in collective grantmaking. Sometimes it means helping someone discover a nonprofit like Blueprint Ministries whose mission reflects their values and vision for the community.

“When everyone in San Antonio invests a little money in tackling our city’s biggest challenges, real progress is made,” Ferguson says. “We are grateful to the Area Foundation for publishing these resources that help people do just that.”
