The San Antonio Area Foundation (SAAFdn) announced today that Marjie French will retire as CEO effective June 1, 2023.

French joined the Area Foundation in 2019 and is leaving to fulfill a desire to spend more time with her husband and family.

“I am incredibly proud to be a part of the San Antonio Area Foundation’s history,” said French. “The organization continues to have a tremendous impact in our community and is in a great position to celebrate 60 years serving as the community’s most trusted and impactful philanthropic partner.”

During French’s tenure as CEO, the Area Foundation served as a critical community partner supporting and strengthening San Antonio’s nonprofit sector:

  • Securing funding for nonprofits serving the most vulnerable during the global pandemic;
  • Leading the organization through a strategic planning process charting a course for the next five years; and
  • Growing partnerships with national funders to support local initiatives.

“We are very thankful for Marjie’s leadership and wish her the best,” said Alex Perez, Area Foundation Board Chair. “We have appointed Lisa Brunsvold as interim CEO and will inform the community, as well as our partners and donors of next steps and progress as we identify a permanent replacement.”
