Cindy Campbell brings 30+ years of accounting experience in nonprofit & for-profit sectors

The San Antonio Area Foundation is pleased to announce the hire of its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Cindy Campbell, CFO at San Antonio Area Foundation

Cindy Campbell brings more than 30 years of accounting experience, including executive and leadership roles in both nonprofit and for-profit sectors.

She comes to the Area Foundation from the San Antonio Botanical Gardens, where she served as CFO. Additional nonprofit sector roles include serving as CFO at the Jewish Federation of San Antonio as well as at SAMMinistries.

“I am honored and humbled to work for the San Antonio Area Foundation, which has such a rich history in serving San Antonio,” Campbell said. “I look forward to being with such a wonderful organization that marries the needs of our community with the heartstrings of donors.”

Campbell starts the new position on Jan. 4, 2022. She will take over from Lynda Cabell, who’s retiring after serving as Area Foundation CFO since 2017. Cabell will stay on through the end of 2021 and will assist Campbell in order to ensure a smooth transition.

Campbell’s vast experience – she has two decades of managing accounting teams as large as 60 employees – will be a strong asset in leading the Area Foundation’s Finance Team. As CFO, she will also become part of the organization’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT).

“We are so thankful for the dedication Lynda has given – and continues to give – to our organization,” said Marjie French, CEO of the Area Foundation. “We’re just as delighted that Cindy has agreed to join us because her leadership will be key in ensuring we remain financially stable and San Antonio’s trusted philanthropic partner.”

Though obviously a numbers person, Campbell thrives on translating them into layman’s terms so all members of the organization can understand their meaning toward meeting established goals. A licensed Texas CPA, she holds a Bachelor of Business in Accounting degree from McMurry University in Abilene.
